The full list of performances & records are posted at www.raleighwalkers.com.
  • Cher-ing Shamrocks

Cher Armstrong continued her marathon journey at the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA. Her time of 3:52:37 (8:53/mile) was a good test of fitness as she prepares for future races on the track and roads in the months ahead.

Cher was 554th of 2556 starters, 116th of 981 women and 13th of 121 in the W35-39 age group. She passed 107 runners from the 15 km mark through to the finish.
  • Shamrock & Roll

Alexa Governor and Alejandro Fernandez competed in the debut Race Walk at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Leading from the gun, in her first race in over a year, Alexa lapped the entire women’s field to finish the 5000m in 25:49.84. This is a new Team Record, Stadium Record and is under the qualifier for the Penn Relays. Additionally, her 3000m split (15:30.60) is also a Team Record.

Alejandro opened his outdoor season with a strong 4th place finish in the men’s race, coming in at 29:17.96. His 3000m split (17:19.20) is a Team M30-34 Record and faster than his performance at the USATF Masters Indoor Champs last month.
  • Gainesville, Florida was the site of the World Team Trials in the Half Marathon (and U20 10 km). All of the best Race Walkers in the US toed the line to earn a spot on Team USA going to Brazil. Competing for the Raleigh Walkers were Jordan Crawford and Bricyn Healey, both veteran members of international competition.

Conditions were similar to what is expected in the World Team Championships, so this was a perfect dress rehearsal.

Jordan walked in the chase pack with Jason Cherng and Emmanuel Corvera for most of the race and broke away from Cherng with 2 laps to go, making a decisive move to finish 2nd in 1:39:49 behind Nick Christie 1:34:21.

Bricyn started strong, but experienced some trouble around the halfway point and struggled through to an 8th place finish in the men’s race, with a time of 2:01:11. Both Crawford and Healey have secured positions on Team USA for the World Race Walk Team Championships in Brazil, it’s just a matter of which event they choose to compete in.
