Dan Nehnevaj and Bricyn Healey are off to compete at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM. They’ll be in a field of the top 7 walkers in the US, racing 3000m at 5300 feet of altitude. The lighter air at this meet will affect times somewhat, but expect a fierce battle between all of them.
Nick Christie is the favorite, with the only sub 12:00 time in the field, but should he falter, any of the other 6 athletes could win this race. Nehnevaj, the 2022 walker-up, should be the most likely to challenge, as he’s been on Christie’s heels at every distance over the last 3 years.
Healey, the new Head Coach Fond du Lac HS, at will be looking to improve on his 7th place finish in 2022 as well, and move into the top 5 to earn some well deserved prize money. $15000 is on the line in each event at these Championships. The top 4 finishers earn Championship medals too.
